Char Quarter is a contemporary take on the humble Charpai/Charpoy, an archetypal Indian rope bed, literally meaning four legs (Char= four, pai=legs).
The Char Quarter Bench stays close to the original form of the bed, changing small but important details and transforming it into a contemporary object. Rather than have the 4 legs turned separately, one large block of solid wood is turned and then split into four pieces (quartered). The name Char Quarter also borrows from the method of wood measurement which is peculiar to the United States ( in quartered board feet instead of cubic feet), and the Indian pun for a full measure of a liquor bottle.
