resin, mixed media wall sculpture

This piece is from my continuing 'barcode' series and features striping reminiscent of the ubiquitous barcode of our contemporary world with flora embedded resin and charred wood and is a conceptual commentary of the current environmental condition.

This barcode piece is completely customizable. This piece has an integral rail/clip hanging system for easy and invisible installation. Vertical or horizontal hanging is possible.

Unique Sculptural Wall Art

Marcia Stuermer is a San Francisco multi-media artist who uses cast resin as a primary medium to create her alluring artwork. Stuermer uses her fascination with scientific inquiry of the natural, technological, chemical, and biological worlds to unveil underpinnings that she feels have a particular relevance to our contemporary milieu.

Informed and inspired by the duality of nature and technology, she riffs on the ubiquitous graphic of our consumer-based world in her ‘barcode’ series via compositional strata of cast resin and other materials. Whether in her studio practice or with her private and public art commissions, the elements of surprise, wonder and unforeseen beauty are central to her work. Environmental and societal concerns appear as impassioned subtexts in her most recent barcode works.

Originally from Ohio, Marcia attended Cooper School of Art and the Cleveland Art Institute, before getting her degrees in sculpture and drawing from the Kansas City Art Institute. She has an extensive exhibition record and is in numerous private collections as well as the public permanent collections of such entities as the Sacramento International Airport, Capitol One, Visa Corporation and Rabobank.

In addition to her studio practice, she’s the founder and creative director of Stuermer Studios, which offers architects and interior designers functional architectural details in resin for both interior and exterior applications. Driven by an obsession for sustainability and a knack for alchemy, Stuermer often repurposes resin remnants from her company’s production of large-scale projects with other unexpected elements and custom resin castings to craft her intricate work.
