““Building Home”” This mural is dedicated to the history of people, land, and culture in the Bayview neighborhood of San Francisco, CA. Bayview has a rich history starting with the indigenous Ohlone people prior to the arrival of Spanish missionaries in the 1700s, to homesteading and livestock work during the Goldrush period, to shipbuilding during WWII, and to industrious workers in construction. Like many neighborhoods in San Francisco, development has been challenging, with opportunity given to some and taken away from others. Bayview has held strong as one of the last neighborhoods of San Francisco that is a place of strong workers and laborers. This mural shows an unfinished house in the foreground resting on “The Hill” that has the word HOME beneath it. Behind, the ever changing San Francisco skyline towers, symbolizing development. A rhythmic shape flows from the bottom of the mural through the house and above the city, symbolizing connection, compassion, and hope.
