The brief was the create a modern, sophisticated house with materials that require minimal maintenance as the owners are retired & travel frequently. Another requirement of the brief was to meet the needs of an intergenerational family, where the owner’s son could live independently with them on his own floor.
The architectural form of this well considered 4 Bedroom 3 Bathroom home responds to a narrow site with sweeping views across the Scotch College playing fields to Lake Claremont beyond. The expressed, sweeping roof form, creates a draped canopy to the living spaces that open up to the sky views. The sculptural roof form floats above the double height entry with the grounded masonry forms either side. The brick elements house the private quiet spaces, while the free-form lightweight glazed living spaces are open and liberally penetrated. The interface between these two forms acts as the circulation and entry spaces.
