This home challenges notions of a coastal suburban home.
The external living spaces are in the front yard, not concealed from the neighbours. The main living room references the soft blue glow of a suburban night and appears from the street as a frame, like those illuminated blue boxes adjacent. This room has no TV.
The home creates an internal protected courtyard to provide an external space sheltered from afternoon breezes. The house wraps and engulfs this courtyard with a series of connected spaced opening onto it.
Raw concrete responds to a beach aesthetic, while dark painted timber creates a contrast for the sheltered spaces within this form. The two forms are linked by a transparent entry which draws the eye into the internal courtyard.
This design presents an architectural exploration of the coastal suburban home pushing the established context.
