The Amsterdam Quilt is directly inspired by a building facade seen from the canals of Amsterdam. A wall of terracotta is broken up by decorative cream colored bricks that connect rows of darkened windows. This traditional architectural style translates seamlessly into a modern pattern with a color palette that recurred throughout my travels in the Lowlands.

STORY
My cousin recommended we rent a boat in Amsterdam, that it was the best way to see the city. After finding out that it was relatively inexpensive and easy for four inexperienced Americans to rent an electric boat for a couple hours, we grabbed picnic supplies and fancy beers and made our way to the boat rental docks.
It turned out that exploring Amsterdam by boat was indeed an unforgettable way of seeing such a bustling city. Sidewalks are crowded with tourists and streets are buzzing with cyclists and cars, but the canals are slow and quiet. By boat, you can easily float through the city, seeing the narrow centuries-old buildings leaning into one another from a distance and take it all in at a leisurely pace. All while snacking on cheese and olives and baguette.
