A.Cross is a mixed-media collage on canvas. The artwork combines oil painting and printing and is offered in a one-of-a-kind size of 30x40 inches. The artwork is framed in a white lacquered 1-inch frame.
This artwork was the main piece in a recent group show whose theme was interpreting how we relate to one another in the post-Internet world. The piece represents the existential self and how we have become isolated yet connected through screens and social media accounts, reduced to bits and bytes. Our society has become increasingly isolated due to technology, Covid, crime, and Web3. Digital social interactions have replaced face-to-face connections, with apps like Facetime and Zoom enabling virtual family visits and chat apps facilitating real-time communication. Our fellowship is established electronically, relying on wifi and Bluetooth. The immense pressure of social media has replaced the social pressure of fitting in real life. As the late author James Baldwin aptly said, "The purpose of art is to expose the questions that have been hidden by the answers."
