Seven inch around by seven inch tall vessel.

Raku fired pieces are fired to over
1800°F and then removed from the kiln while glowing red hot with tongs.
Pieces are put into combustible materials and then the fire is smothered out.
This process cracks the glaze in some pieces and forces smoke into the cracks. It also starves the glazes of oxygen creating shiny copper. The process is purposely imprecise and yields unpredictable results. Two markings from the tongs are also common and are not considered defects.
Raku pottery is not dinnerware safe, it is a decorative only. Raku is also a bit porous, so it is not meant to hold water.
For flower arrangements, it is recommended to use another waterproof container inside or a coaster underneath to protect table surfaces.

Allowing the materials to be themselves is something I value greatly. I lived in Thailand, China, Cambodia and now in Arizona and find that each place has allowed me to be and find a different part of myself. Living in the desert coming from a jungle, I am most interested in water and how it interacts with landscapes. I have been working in sculpture since the 90s, attended Alfred University’s College of Ceramics and continue to work in the medium that has been close to me since childhood.
