During the Covid-19 Lockdown, 3 siblings, all of whom have some background in Art, decided to undertake a project which would fill their lockdown lives with some enjoyment and peace of the mind.
Each sibling had their own role based on their expertise and experience; the plan was to create a supersized art piece which would fit on side of the living room, ultimately making the art piece itself a feature wall.
The siblings spent 6 weeks designing the world map and another 6 weeks creating and assembling it. A gigantic canvas had to be made and hand painted to hold the wooden world map together. It was purposely painted blue with some harsh and soft strokes to exhibit the feel and look of our vast deep oceans. The world map itself is made from multiple layers of stained poplar plywood and Ceiba plywood creating an almost 3D effect.
The world map was made during a pandemic, during a period where some people where losing their minds. This map became a symbol of light for the sibling and hopefully for all those that see it. As said by the famous Greek philosopher – Aristotle “It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.”
Their focus, their determination and hard work allowed them to produce a piece of art unlike any other, combining art, geography, the use of modern technology and the feelings of 3 determined siblings.
