A Machadinha ("The Hatchet" in Portuguese) - Sculptures
Price $2,000
Sculpture: Metal, Stone, Wood
21" h x 15" w x 12" d
A Machadinha (Portuguese for hatchet) was inspired by my trip to Portugal where I visited one of the oldest megalith sites in Europe, The site is Almendres Cromlech outside of Evora. Stones arranged by a culture who lived there 7500 years ago. Little is known about these people but it is believed that they configured these large stones to align with heavenly bodies. This site in Portugal is about 2000 years older than Stonehenge. This piece, A Machadinha, is the first in a series where I imagine that I am walking around the grounds of Almendres Cromlech and spot something sticking out of the ground and after carefully digging I unearth this artifact from this unknown culture that lived 7500 years ago. After spending a month in Portugal so many things have inspired me. I love that country and it's people and it's history. I will call this new series "Portugal Inspired".
