A summer commission for one of the same hospitals in Texas where my work already hangs.
Agapanthus flowers only bloom in June- August in northern California where I live. Thus any custom commission using these flowers (which I must cut fresh) cannot be completed until the summer months.
The agapanthus flower is native to South Africa. I have a hundred appear in my garden in California each summer. Though these monotypes look like woodcuts or screen prints, they are actually a form of photography called a cyanotype.
Though this monoprint looks like a woodcut or screen print, this is actually a nineteenth century method of photography called a cyanotype, "cyan" meaning blue in Greek. Every botanical print is entirely unique made using fresh cut branches laid in that exact composition on the hand-coated light-sensitive paper only once. My botanical cyanotypes are each one-of-a-kind slow cameraless photographs made outdoors using natural sunlight. There is no lens, no plastic photo negative, no ink, etched plate, carved block or printing press.
UNFRAMED. Ships rolled in a tube.
Free shipping within the United States. Ships via UPS Ground from the west coast.
On 100% cotton watercolor paper. Signed on the back by the artist.
