Charles Phan and his family started their first restaurant, Slanted Door, In 1995, in San Francisco's Mission District with an honest vision of serving vibrant Vietnamese street food in a modern setting.
Slanted Door moved in 2004 to its current location in the Ferry Building, an expansive space overlooking the bay, and was recently recognized as an "Outstanding Restaurant" by the James Beard Foundation.
Charles and his family continue to build exciting new restaurants featuring various cuisines: Out the Door, OTD, Hard Water and South at SFJAZZ. Charles has authored two cookbooks: "Vietnamese Home Cooking" (2012) and "The Slanted Door"(2014), both of which won IACP awards in First Cookbook and Photography categories, respectively.
