2695 N Beachwood Dr, Los Angeles 90068, CA
Beachwood Café is an upscale Hollywood diner that opened in 2012 in a spot previously occupied for almost 40 years by the Village Coffee Shop.

New owner Patti Peck brought in architect Barbara Bestor to update the charming but rather tattered casual space that featured rustic wood furniture and floral wallpaper. She wanted to keep some of those cozy elements but thoroughly modernize the place.

She also established a menu that the old regulars might not recognize,

with modern American cuisine laced with Asian, Scandinavian, and Mediterranean influences, all made with the highest quality, in-season ingredients. The cafe serves fresh farm-to-table fare with items like homemade pickles, hormone- and antibiotic-free ground beef for burgers, kale salads and and several vegan options. Everything is made from scratch on the premises including fennel ketchup, jams, hot sauces and, of course, baked goods.

Barbara Bestor's whimsical redesign of the restaurant earned Beachwood a 2012 AIA Restaurant Design Award.
