Jessica Alejandra was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Guided by the hand of her creative grandmother (a weaver), she began experimenting and working with natural fibers such as cotton rope, wool, and hemp by making wall hangings and wearable items. She became a licensed artisan while finishing her studies in Human Biology and continued to develop her methods and understanding in the textile arts medium. She moved with her husband to Palm Beach, Florida in 2015 and decided to peruse her dream of becoming a full-time professional textile artist under the label of Vita Boheme fiber-art-studio. A passion that started as a hobby, quickly became a thriving small art business. Vita Boheme's textile art has been featured in HGTV (Xtreme Makeovers- Home Edition) and incorporated by designers in many recognized hotels, country clubs, restaurants and private residences across the globe.
About The Artwork
Vita Boheme's work is a creative expression of the artist's fascination with interior design, familiar shapes, color, movement, natural textures, as well as her appreciation for slow living. It is also the result of her grip on the fundamentals of nature, constructive forces, balance, and embracement of all the beauty evoked by natural-organic processes. By suspending hundreds of ethically sourced wool strands to a carefully crafted wood frame, the artist creates an elevated fiber canvas full of texture, warmth, and relaxing movement. Each fiber is thoughtfully hand dyed with plant based and custom prepared dyes. The end result is an eye-catching and sophisticated work of art that invites us to explore all of its texture layers while admiring the artist's use of natural and unique materials, pigments, and values.
