"“my art is an homage to mother earth, not a copy. for it would be foolish of me to think i could ever be her equal” — rd"
Rhonda deland is an artist living in montauk, NY. originally from Huntington Beach, California, she grew up as a competitive figure skater, dancer, doodler and collector of editorial swipe from magazines like ad, vogue and harpers bazaar. she left home at 18 to attend Ithaca College in NY where she received her BA in communications and design. She moved straight to manhattan to start her career as an art director in advertising. Rhonda worked for many ad agencies and retail brands, created ads, catalogs and directed photo shoots for companies like Saks Fifth Avenue, Avon and Victorias Secret, just name a few.
Her wanderlust for exploring new ways to express herself creatively led her to working in fashion, in food, in pastry, in interior design and finally, in painting. she went back to art school at NYAA in Tribeca to continue her education in 2017/18. After 21 years city living, she moved her family to a little beach town called Montauk, in 2019. Her fluid painting style is inspired by the ocean and the consistently changing patterns found in natural elements: water, stone, sand & sky. Organic forms and graphic lines from these patterns, guide her ideas into abstract expressions. her current work is a deep dive into the intricacies of marble and stone and the patterns and pigments that are formed.
