New Fulgenzi Website Bio
Fine artist and designing woman, Maureen Fulgenzi currently lives and paints in the Palm Beach area. Her commissions and works are distinguished among the best in the abstract art world. Her vibrant and varied art has garnered accolades from prominent designers and design publications around the globe, including a Special Distinction Award from the International Art Biennale of Malta.
Her work can be seen in local and international exhibits such as the International Art Biennale of Malta, the Tempra Museum of Contemporary Art in Mgarr, Malta and and the Tempra Collection in Sicily. Maureen’s equestrian themed pieces will be showcased on the Fall, 2018 cover of both the HITS Ocala Winter Circuit magazine and the HITS Coachella Desert Circuit Official Show Programs.
Hailing from Westchester, New York, Maureen’s aspirations to be an artist began as a child. After four years at NYC’s School of Visual Arts studying Fashion Illustration and Advertising, she landed a freelance position with Sassoon Jeans and designed their first marketing poster. Maureen worked as a sketch artist for Fairfield publications (i.e., "W"), and illustrated for TOBY fashion reports.
In the late 70s, Fulgenzi pioneered a new hand-painted fabric and silk technique that turned into the hottest trend on the New York couture scene. It quickly captured the attention of A-list department stores and boutiques nationwide. With her technical skills and innate color sense to custom-create and apply silk dyes to fine fabrics, Maureen set a firm brand in the fashion industry. During this time Mary McFadden picked up one of Fulgenzi's creations called "Windrift," which became the most popular and longest-selling designer bedding collection for the Martex Corporation. Due to her design notoriety, Fulgenzi was then contracted to produce prints for a men’s shirt line and a printed dress collection for fashion icon, Diane Von Furstenberg.
In 1982, Maureen launched the successful Horito-Fulgenzi Designs that featured clothing made with hand-painted fabrics. The company attracted notable clients such as Mary Tyler Moore, Betty White, and Cecily Tyson. Her innovative fashions were sold in department stores, catalogs and boutiques across the country.
When other companies began to imitate her work, Maureen moved on to answer her smoldering desire to become a recognized fine artist. She followed a career opportunity in the Hamptons and then toured Europe and Italy. Abroad, she found new inspiration and methods that added further sophistication to her approach, especially in the area of color.
Ms. Fulgenzi ascribes to Picasso’s view, “It took me my whole life to learn how to paint like a child.” In other words, while she is highly experienced and technically well-trained, it is not the cerebral element that brings life to her works, but the visceral. Fulgenzi’s variety of style has birthed a fine-art portfolio that pleases multiple audiences and provides a satisfying contemplative ground for her admirers. Finished pieces as well as commissions are available for purchase. Maureen welcomes the fresh inspiration initiated by client’s concept and vision.
