"Inspired by place. I am a painter with a passion for abstraction. #alifeinpainting"
Lisa Ochowycz is a Vancouver, Canada based visual artist who has been awarded residencies at Baer Art Centre in Iceland and Stegner House in Saskatchewan. Her work has been collected and exhibited internationally, most recently in a solo show nah und fern, in Basel, Switzerland. Ochowycz's works revolve around translation, the imprint of social and geographical experience on memory, and beauty. These themes intertwine in atmospheric abstract paintings, works on paper, or photo based work. Her work has been featured in magazines, newspapers, prominent art blogs, and in Film and Television.
Her series are named after streets , neighbourhoods, or observations that have played a role in her artistic explorations. *Hawks Series (atmospheric paintings) is named after a street in Vancouver and is inspired by the natural and built environment of the Pacific Northwest. *IAOTA - In Anticipation of the Arctic – (atmospheric paintings) creates a visual narrative articulating the beauty and fragility of the northern environment. *Classical music is the inspiration behind IIWAM - If I Were a Musician - (works on paper) in which the notes and mood visually dance across the page. *Traces (photowork) is contemplates memory and nostalgia and originated during my residency in Iceland and has continued on home soil. *Waterbucket – IIWAI – If I Were an Island- (photographs) showcase the whimsical and beautiful worlds that happen by chance via my water bucket.
