This one-of-a-kind series is inspired by the night sky in Van Gogh's "Starry Night" painting. The pieces shown here are representative and not specifically available. Each vessel is wheel thrown stoneware and covered in a contrasting slip, much of which will be carved away or sculpted to create each design. The process involves multiple layers of drawing, carving, refining, and more scratching, carving, and creation of bas relief, depending on the design. Commissions may be based on an image seen here, but will not be exact replicas as each is individually hand made and each style will have variations in layout and execution.

Customer will pay shipping, and wholesale is not available. Production time listed is for the creation and execution of each piece, and additional time may be added depending on the status of our production cycle when an order is received.

Each vessel is wheel thrown with a light or dark stoneware. A slip is applied in a contrasting clay, much of which will be removed during the carving process. Each design incorporates sgraffito, carving, and bas relief in executing the design, which may include landscape objects or be more abstract. My signature 'crazy green' glaze is the main glaze component on the outside, and the results of the glaze will vary from kiln to kiln, depending on the iron content of the clay and slip, placement in the kiln, and each individual firing. The images shown here are representative and these specific pieces are not available. Commissions may be placed for works in these styles, but exact replication is not available. Production time listed is the time for design and execution of the piece, and additional turn around time may be added depending on the status of my production cycle when the commission is placed. Customer pays shipping. Wholesale is not available. HURRICANE HELENE UPDATE: Until I am able to relocate and rebuild my studio, I am working in provisional studios with limited space and will determine commission turnaround when the order is placed.

Lori Theriault is potter and owner of Crazy Green Studios in Asheville, NC. Lori has made a name for herself creating beautiful, custom service wares in collaboration with chefs and food professionals across the country. During pandemic shut downs, she was able to explore design work that had been on her mind for sometime, and her "Vincent Series" was born. Influenced completely by the Impasto style of Vincent Van Gogh, and in great part by his "Starry Night" masterpiece, Lori interprets and explores the movement of the sky in short, individual sgraffito and/or carving strokes to create works small and large.

On September 27, 2024, Hurricane Helene devastated Western North Carolina, including Asheville's River Arts District. Both of Lori's studios, her main studio within the collective of The Village Potters Clay Center, and her production studio, were located on the first floor of her building situated directly across the street from the French Broad River. The river rose 26.5 feet, flooded with a force greater than Niagara Falls, and saturated the building for more than 70 hours before receding. As a result, Lori has lost her studio, equipment, materials, and tools. She is working in provisional studio spaces and has access to fire other artist's kilns, but it will be a long process to find and rebuild at a new location. Until then, Lori is only taking commissions on her Vincent Series, and each commission turnaround will be determined when placed.
