"It takes enormous trust and courage to allow yourself to remember." Bessel van der Kolk
The Body Keeps the Score
Every collection begins with connection points - whether those are physical connections between hands and brush, brush and paint or conceptual connections between past and present, dreams and reality. This series started simply with a connection between myself and the canvas - trusting that my physical body can remember and then translate scattered thoughts and experiences onto a real surface, using the appropriate materials to best speak the language of ideas. Airy strokes and watery pools are juxtaposed against clean edges and thin marks. Bold, earthy, grounding tones are intertwined with feather-like sweeps of color.
In this season of life, I find myself at a bit of a halfway point between the past and the future. As I'm learning to weave all of my good and hard experiences together, I hope that as you study these pieces, you'll reflect on your own journey and will see parts of your life tapestry emerging as well.
