"My paintings are color driven and made by cutting apart painted paper and putting it back together with new connections."
Erin McCluskey Wheeler is a painter, writer, curator, and teacher based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Erin studied minimalist ink brush painting in Japan where she learned how to use white space and organic shapes. In combination with her intrinsic and joyful color combinations in painted paper, her work is both happy noise and restful quiet. Erin paints lots of paper to find those moments of beautiful color and textures that she cuts up and puts back together.
Erin has a BA in studio art and art history from Beloit College, and an MFA from California College of the Arts. Erin is a faculty member of the 92nd Y School of the Arts in New York City and teaches collage and mixed media classes throughout the Bay Area. Erin was the 2022 World Collage Day Poster and Cover Artist for Kolaj Magazine.
